Today we are announcing that Skype for Business Online will be retired on July 31, 2021. After that time, the service will no longer be accessible.
To enable customers to plan and implement a successful upgrade from Skype for Business Online to Teams, Microsoft offers comprehensive guidance and resources, including a proven success framework, best practices, downloadable assets, free instructor-led training, and FastTrack onboarding assistance for eligible subscriptions. There is also an extensive list of Microsoft partners who are able to assist customers with their upgrades to Teams.
Skype (consumer), Skype for Business Server, and Skype on-premises customers will not be affected by the retirement of the Skype for Business Online service.
Current Skype for Business Online customers with existing Office 365 tenants will experience no change in the service up to its retirement date and may continue adding new users as needed. But starting September 1, 2019, all new Office 365 customers will be onboarded directly to Teams.
For more detailed information about the announcement, see the Teams blog.
